What is Celebration of Life Month?
Celebration of Life month is a month-long holiday celebrated every January. It focuses on, well, celebrating life. According to daysoftheyear.com, “It’s the beginning of a new year, and that makes it the perfect time to start appreciating the lives that we lead, and the blessings that come to us every day.” The holiday season kicks off with Thanksgiving – being grateful for many things in our lives. It continues in December, with many families spending time together and sometimes giving presents to each other. Then there’s New Year’s, a time for a fresh start and a look ahead to the new year. In the midst of this, there’s a lot of business with planning and socializing. Sometimes it becomes very easy to lose track of what is at the center of all of this: life itself. It’s hard to be truly grateful for something when you’re so busy it goes to the back of your mind. Celebration of Life Month reminds us all to take some time to appreciate ourselves and reserve some time for ourselves and our own happiness.
How Can I Observe Celebration of Life Month?
Another website, nationaltoday.com, says, “This is one of the easiest holidays to celebrate because all you need to do is whatever makes you happy!” Engage in your favorite hobbies and activities, take a day off, relax. Spend some time alone to truly appreciate your own life. If you want to just sleep the day away because you rarely get the time to rest, go right ahead. If you want to spend some time with your family because you rarely see them, feel free. It’s your choice. Do what makes you happy.
If this is hard for you, don’t worry – you’re not alone. Daysoftheyear.com acknowledges that this can be a struggle sometimes: “Celebrating this important month can be challenging, as we’ve always learned to work work work, and to prepare ourselves for the next step in our growth in careers and life.” It can be hard to stop when you’re a non-stop person, but you can do it.
